Heroes of Africa

This week at Washington State University, the International Students Council is hosting “International Education Week”, during which numerous organizations, clubs, and individuals will be descending upon the campus to discuss a variety global issues. I was privileged enough to be invited to present today about Heroes of Africa, a non-profit organization that spotlights the humanitarian efforts of individuals and non-government organizations (NGOs) making an impact on the ground in the fight against HIV/AIDS in Africa.

Heroes of Africa spotlights and promotes these humanitarian efforts by producing, publishing, and distributing premium video, image, and text content. By engaging individuals throughout the global community with interactive multimedia, Heroes of Africa seeks to drive financial and volunteer donations to advance the humanitarian projects that assist individuals living with (or affected by) HIV/AIDS in Africa. Rather than providing content for these individuals and NGOs, Heroes produces content about them.

At the heart of Heroes of Africa is Jeff Dossett, the Founder and President, who provides overall strategic vision and operational leadership. Jeff brings over 25 years of senior executive leadership, serving most recently as Senior Vice President at Yahoo! and CEO of AdventureLink. Currently, Jeff is Senior Vice President at Demand Media, the Silicon Valley tech company founded by Richard Rosenblatt. A true “hero” of Africa himself, Jeff climbed Africa’s Kilimanjaro on his way to completing the Seven Summits (climbing the highest peak on each continent), and was the leader of Everest Team INSPI(RED), which climbed Mt. Everest in 2008 to raise increased awareness of Product (RED) and the fight against HIV/AIDS. For more information on Team INSPI(RED), visit www.teaminspired.com.

Disclosure: I currently serve as Director of Communications at Heroes of Africa. I received no compensation in any form for this article.

    • That is correct, he is my father. His previous positions at Microsoft and Yahoo! have undoubtedly guided my interest toward those companies and their respective industries. However, that connection does not change the way I view them – the facts stated and opinions expressed on this site are fully my own. Thanks for sharing!
